When Malayalees irrespective of caste or religions are celebrating Onam,as Mr Salim rightly told, I do not understand why we are not involving Tamilians also to join with us in the Onam celebration. Nairs in Kerala have changed a lot, and that was one of the reasons for the involvements of all Malayalees in Onam celebration. But Nairs in Chennai have to change a lot, in their outlook towards social integration, and tradition. TNSS has to take a lead in this matter.Hope Onam celebration should not be commercialized . During Onamcelebration it was told that Rs1000 Cr's worth,of liquor is sold in Kerala. Traditional way of celebrating Onam is not known to our children. Our children in Chennai are unheard of Thiruvathirakali, Talappanthukali, etc.

True life comes from the activity of mind and the exercise of the body and the two are bound together. But body is the mirror of mind. Your look may change, and the most beautiful may turn ugly, but the mind may remain unchanged. Cultivate your mind to revolve around truth and the body may not deceive you.

God has created mothers to rear children. To aid mothers God has created teachers to teach the children and to bring them as useful citizens. Teachers should love the children.Give the children the gift of knowledge. Motivate the children in learning. Care each and every children. Care the children more who need help and assistance in learning.Teachers should never be a machine of torture. They are instruments of   inspiration. The unchecked excesses of punishments inflicted on children by Teachers are dehumanizing the noble profession of teaching.I would like to quote here the well known poem of Pamela Glennwarner.

Bitter are the tears of a child; sweeten them

Deep are the thoughts of a child ;quiet them

Sharp is the grief of a child;take it from him or her

Soft is the heart of a child ;do not harden it.

From birth the most unwanted baby has to face rough life, sometimes been thrown in the garbage bins ,collected by someone and mauled, disfigured even amputed ,to fit begging. The young life grows to become urchins ,rag lifters, or ragamuffins ,and lives with despair, sufferings and diseases and no one to console or shed tears or give hopes to live. There are many like him or her. The life goes on and hundreds are born daily to suffer. No one wants to help and take care of these hapless children in the so called civilised world

Human beings are social animals .They need the company of others. It is natural therefore that they live in groups To keep them in society their behaviour towards others should be rational, responsive, and healthy. What make them united are the positive values of each individuals. Society draws values from the individuals, and the people get the values from religions and from educations. Religions once played a vital role in inculcating values. It taught the spirit of selflessness and moral reasoning. All religions are road to impart life skills of self awareness, empathy, and creative thinking. No one can claim that his /her religion is superior to other religions.Hatredness is the root cause of all troubles in society. When religious teachings are misconstrued, haterdeness breed against other religions.

All religions take you to God. No religions should propagate that other religions are inferior, and that a group of infidels follow it. Respect all religions even though you may not accept its preaching.

People, not at all rich in real sense; have amazed wealth from a few lakhs to hundreds of crores within a short span of say three to five years time. We can understand people becoming reasonably rich from their income, after a long service ,if he or she holds a lucrative business or job. I think that these people who become very rich all on a sudden, might have resorted to illegal and wrong ways to acquire wealth. Unfortunately very few are caught by the tax authorities for the economical offences committed by these people. What is surprising is that once they reach the top of the ladder, they try to extend the ladder further and it is likely that they may fall done when they go up. They fail to understand that , the ladder stands on slippery ground. They disassociate with the people whose hands they held once to climb up the ladder. After becoming very rich they are in search of powerful individuals to boost up their status in society.

There need not be any doubt that God has created all living beings. For all living beings other than human beings God makes the life to move in parallel lines and to end the life in the line itself. But life of human beings moves in a circular path and death occurs in any spot in the path. If one leads a God fearing life he or she commits no wrong to anyone and is useful to society, then he or she completes the life circle in peace and the soul reaches the Almighty. But those who do not believe in God and live to harm others , will go tangent and go through the life paths far away from God.

You might have spent all that you earned ,for educating your brothers and sisters. You might have met all expenses for their marriages too. You might have done all sacrifices for their well beings, and you might have felt satisfaction of having done so. But it could be the most unkindness cut of all if your brothers and sisters neglet you and condider you as an outsider.

Caste based reservation in jobs and in educations has done little good to the people who really need reservations. A very small number of people benifit from it while majority of backward people have been left out. The significant effect of resevation has been to widen the gap within different section of the people of the same castes and communities.Resevation is necessary for Dalits and for the downtrodden who is economically backward ,irrespective of caste or religion.

Why do people hate each other?. Why do they hate the language that others speak? Why do they hate other castes or religions ?Why do they hate the people from different states or even different countries ?It seems to hate is their culture It is surprising that the people who claim to be educated, cultured lead first in the hate campaign. The politicians try to reap fruits from these situations for their gains. They form political parties based on castes and religions. It is a dog -eat -dog world.Fairness, empathy, love and respect for others seem to have been lost.

Only solace for the aged and sick is their children. If you love them and bring them up well with fairness, they will take care of you.

Pay attention to your people.

Ask oneself 'are my people happy'.

Family must come first.

Settle family priorities first to perform well at work.

Be honest with everyone.

Follow your heart ,but never at the cost of others.

Be empathetic to the cause of the underprivileged.

When in rage ,do not loose control on your emotions.

Discover ways to discharge tensions without tarnishing your reputation.
Human beings are given the gift to talk ,read and write.

Do not humiliate others by any means even by gesture.

Respect others whether they are big or small and do not hurt their feelings.

Respect all religions.

Opinion - Letters to the Editor

With Pakistan ushering in an Islamic justice system in a big chunk of the North-West Frontier Province to buy peace in Swat Valley, it appears that the Taliban will take over the country soon. The army, for which the Taliban is an asset, will never allow democracy to take root in Pakistan. Is India ready to face the challenge posed by the latest development, given the Taliban's avowed objective of breaking it?
